A few success stories from the Prevention Fund include:

  • A mother of three lost time at work due to an illness that put her behind on her rent. With one-time assistance for rental arrears, her family avoided the cycle of homelessness as she successfully returned to work. Today she is able to keep current on her rent.
  • A father’s work hours were cut back, making their family’s rent unsustainable. They were able to find a more affordable apartment however, they did not have the required funds for the move. With assistance from the Prevention Fund, the family was able to move into their new apartment before becoming homeless.
  • A multi-family home burned to the ground, leaving three low-income families to rebuild their lives. With Prevention Fund assistance, the families were back into a home of their own within two weeks.

The Middlesex County Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness is one of the funding partners helping Middlesex United Way to achieve its Five Year Goal in the area of Housing – increasing the ability of individuals and families to attain affordable housing.
