Good Scouts = Great People!

I had the pleasure and honor of being involved with this year's Connecticut River Council's BSA Good Scout Awards on Wednesday.  This year's recipients are all connected to Middlesex United Way and deserve this special recognition.  They are Middlesex Community College, David Royston and Biff and Jean Shaw.

David Royston and the Shaws are both lifelong  volunteer leaders and donors for United Way.  They have served on the board, chaired campaigns and held other leadership positions.  One of the things of which I am most proud and heartened by is how we continue to attract volunteers to United Way who are passionate, caring and who just plain get things done.  Like so many of our volunteer leaders  David, Biff and Jean also serve and lead other wonderful non profit organizations.  They continue to share their talent and experience with agencies, large and small.  The community is blessed by them.

The college is also very deserving to be honored.  It is a place where all can come and learn for a lifetime.  Scouts teach skills and values that last a lifetime.  Residents have the same opportunity at the college whether taking a course for fun, for credit or attending a special event at the college.

No one sets out in life intending to collect awards but it is good to reminded of the great works of some special people every now and then.
