A nonprofit is only as good as its volunteers and we are fortunate to have some of the very best. Annually, we elect new members to our Board of Directors, and I am excited to announce our newest selection of community-driven difference makers.
At our annual meeting Thursday morning, we welcomed Dr. Michael Conner, Diana Martinez, and Julianne Rioux.
Dr. Michael Conner is the Middletown superintendent of schools. He is involved with the New Haven Jewish Community Center, AASA — National Urban Superintendent Academy Cohort, International Center for Leadership in Education and Lasell College. He holds a doctoral degree in education from Cambridge College.
“The mission of Middlesex United Way is a constant reminder that support mechanisms are essential in ensuring families achieve their goals. Middletown Public Schools and Middlesex United Way can be a model for all to emulate the importance of collective impact work and the benefits it will bring to a community,” Conner said.
He and his wife, Viviana, have one child, Michael T. Conner Jr.
Diana Martinez is serving as the assistant director of Wesleyan University’s Jewett Center for Community Partnerships and has been for the past four years. Martinez is a member of the Middlesex United Way’s Young Leaders Society. In addition to her involvement with the Young Leaders Society, Martinez serves on the Middletown Racial Justice Coalition committee and is the co-president of the Middletown Young Democrats. She is working toward completing a Master of Arts in liberal studies degree from Wesleyan’s Graduate Liberal Studies Program.
Martinez lives in Middletown with her two children.
Julianne Rioux is an engineer at Pratt & Whitney and has been with the company since 2015. She has served as the Middlesex United Way special events and communication chair, as well as co-lead for its workplace campaign. Rioux is a member of Women in Aviation and enjoys volunteering with Girl Scouts of America, American Cancer Society, UTC for Vets, March of Dimes, and Texas Children’s Hospital.
Rioux is a mother of five children and lives in Andover.
In addition to welcoming new board members, we also elected new officers. They are all outstanding leaders who will continue to ensure Middlesex United Way remains true to our mission, vision, and values. Our newly elected officers are Patricia Charles, chairman of the board, Scott Carlson, vice chairman, and Allison Dowe, treasurer.
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new board members and officers to the Middlesex United Way family. We are very thankful for your service and are excited for the year ahead
