Day of Caring 2011
On Day of Caring on September 28, 2011 teams of volunteers helped install Born Learning Trails throughout the county. Born Learning Trails are a series of signs mounted on posts with fun, physical activities for parents and caregivers to do with children. The trails also feature stencils painted on the ground with letters, shapes, numbers, and hopscotch.
The trails are typically installed in a public setting, such as a park or school, where everyone in the community is able to enjoy it. They are an early learning tool that encourages development in young children while providing an enriching activity for adults and kids to do together.
Installing these trails throughout Middlesex County is helping Middlesex United Way achieve its Five Year Goal for the Common Good of increasing children's readiness to learn by school entry.
Volunteers from Aetna, Comcast, Liberty Bank, Webster Bank, and Rolls Royce Naval Marine, Inc. participated as well as many community members in each town.
Special thanks to Lowe's in Cromwell for setting the trail posts in cement and attaching the wood backings to all of the wood posts!
