COVID-19: Sewing Face Masks

Thank you so much for volunteering to make protective face masks for nonprofit agencies throughout Middlesex County providing frontline services to individuals in need.

Middlesex United Way has heard from many partners about an increasing demand for homemade cloth masks. We understand that individuals and groups are making them as fast as possible, but the need is still growing. Middlesex United Way is happy to be coordinating efforts and working within the community with mask makers, connecting them to those in need. Many of our partners are essential businesses, as they provide direct services to in-need populations.

We recommend the following mask instructions and tutorials, which can be found at:

Materials: Middlesex Health recommends that fabric should be made of double weave cotton (such as denim, duck cloth, canvas or twill) with no-stretch or minimal-stretch. Please avoid polyester/less breathable fabrics.

You can purchase materials online or recycle items in your house so long as they are clean and in good shape. Worn or dirty fabric will not be protective.
