The Middlesex - Meriden/Wallingford Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) provides support services and financial assistance to prevent homelessness or assist individuals and families who can be rapidly re-housed. HPRP focuses on keeping households that are at-risk of homelessness in their housing (prevention) and on moving families and individuals quickly out of emergency shelter and into housing with appropriate supports (rapid re-housing).
To qualify your household income must be less than 50% of area median income and you need to prove you have or can reasonably secure the capacity to sustain your housing, after the short term HPRP assistance expires.
Homeless Prevention Households may be eligible for homeless prevention services if you have received a written eviction notice, are doubled up and the host or landlord has given you a deadline for moving out, your housing has been condemned or is hazardous, or you have experienced a sudden and significant loss of income.
Rapid Re-Housing Households may be eligible for rapid re-housing services if you reside in a shelter, sleep in a place not meant for human habitation, are timing out of a transitional housing program, or you are a victim of domestic violence.
Qualification screens can be completed by dialing 211 or participating agencies and ask about the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program.
