Affordable Housing

Working families and individuals will have access to an affordable, decent place to live.

Middlesex United Way is working countywide on the need for safe, affordable housing. In Old Saybrook, United Way is funding HOPE Partnership to develop attainable housing for working families currently living in motels in their community. Many working people in Old Saybrook cannot afford to live there. Together we will make it possible for them to both work and live in their town in decent, safe housing.

Through Middlesex Habitat for Humanity, we support a properties pool for the purchase of future land or property, a construction supervisor position, and the construction of a new home in Middletown. In September, 2007 we held a Week of Caring event with 120 volunteers to help build a Habitat for Humanity home in Middletown. Thanks to the efforts of these hard-working volunteers, the home was completed about 2 months ahead of schedule.

Middlesex United Way is also actively involved in the Middlesex County Ten-Year Plan to End Homelessness. Read the complete Plan at the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness' website >>

United Way continues to support transitional housing and other programs throughout the county that help families acquire decent, affordable housing and the skills and job training necessary to maintain it long-term.
