MIDDLETOWN — It is a Middlesex United Way tradition to embrace new staff with a warm welcome, and this time is no different. It is with great pleasure that we announce the start of the newest member of our team, Manny Martinez, who began his work as development director Monday.
Manny comes to us from the Connecticut Rivers Council Boy Scouts of America. Manny first joined the Boy Scouts of America in 2015 as a district executive, and through a great work ethic and reputation, worked his way up to development director before leaving to join Middlesex United Way.
In his most recent role, Manny was responsible for leading fundraising efforts, planning, supervising and executing development programs. He focused on assisting the council in reaching annual and long-range development goals, and also helped develop strategies to support the growth and expansion of the organization.
Through three major events for the Connecticut Rivers Council, Manny and his team were able to successfully raise over $480,000, surpassing their previous goal of $460,000. The money raised was used to assist scouting programs throughout the state.
In his first year with the scouts, he successfully created a fundraising event highlighting Eagle Scouts from the greater Hartford area, and recognizing individuals from the community that supported youth development and other community initiatives. With this event, the goal was to raise $5,000, but under Manny’s leadership, more than $30,000 was raised. For the past three years, the event has brought in over $75,000 of new money to support scouting programs.
Manny’s professional career has primarily been in the nonprofit sector, with 11 years of experience, including working for the Boys and Girls Clubs and the Boy Scouts of the America. His last position with the Boy and Girls Club was director of operations at the Waterbury location.
Manny’s past experience as a development director will transition perfectly into his new role here at Middlesex United Way. He will be using his leadership, fundraising, and interpersonal skills to help us achieve organization goals. Manny will be responsible for initiating, implementing and expanding development strategies.
We are confident Manny is the right person for the job and are thrilled that he is excited to join us.
“Middlesex United Way does so much for the people in Middlesex County and understands the importance of bringing the community together and working towards the common goal of improving the quality of life for those in this area. We help people in a way we couldn't as individuals” he said.
“I am so happy to be a part of a great organization doing incredible things for a great community and look forward to bringing my skills and experiences to the continuous success of Middlesex United Way,” Manny added.
Manny is an active member of the community. He is a member of the Asbury Methodist Church in Bristol and the River Delta Business Network International in Old Saybrook. He enjoys spending time with his children, Vayda, 11, and Levi, 7, and his girlfriend Amarillis Vega. Manny is a disc jockey in his spare time and loves what music can do to bring all types of people together. He is a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees and Orlando Magic.
We are so pleased to have Manny join our team. His values mirror ours, and his connections throughout the county will help strengthen existing relationships, as well as help create new ones. Manny is a dynamic, hard-working person of great integrity, and I am excited to see what great work he will accomplish.
Please join us in welcoming and getting to know Manny. He can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org and 860-346-8695.
