About ALICE in Connecticut
ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed—households that earn above the Federal Poverty Level but still cannot afford basic needs. The newly released 2025 ALICE Report shows that in Connecticut, 40% of households (more than 580,000 families) live below the ALICE Threshold, struggling to pay for essentials like housing, child care, food, and health care. In 2023, the cost of survival was estimated at $38,184 for a single adult and $116,208 for a family of four, far above the federal poverty line.
How We Support ALICE Families
At Middlesex United Way, we work every day to support ALICE families—through investments in local programs, partnerships with community agencies, and advocacy that addresses the root causes of financial hardship. By bringing together resources and people, we help ALICE households not just get by, but move toward stability and opportunity.
