The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free tax preparation services to individuals and families who need help filing their returns. Middlesex United Way supports the local VITA program here in Middlesex County, where trained volunteers ensure taxpayers maximize their refunds through credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit.
During the 2024 tax season, nearly 700 tax returns were processed, resulting in close to $900,000 in refunds coming back into our community. With the help of 46 trained volunteers, the VITA program continues to make a meaningful impact for working families and individuals who otherwise might not be able to afford professional tax assistance.
Please note: Middlesex United Way does not process tax returns directly. VITA is a community-based program staffed by IRS-certified volunteers at local sites. Availability is limited during tax season, and services are offered by appointment only.
